TrueVision 3D Surgical Granted Fundamental Patent For Real-time Surgical Reference Indicium Apparatus and Methods for Intraocular Lens Implantation for Astigmatic Correction

Santa Barbara, CA, USA – November 6, 2015 – TrueVision 3D Surgical, a world leader in ophthalmic 3D surgical guidance and visualization, announced today it has been issued a patent by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) for fundamental technology underlying computer-guided methods for toric intraocular lens (IOL) placement and alignment as it relates to real-time surgical methods for astigmatism correcting procedures.

The TrueVision U.S. patent number, issued 11/3, is 9,173,717.

pressrelease"We are gratified to see the USPTO recognize the uniqueness of our invention and the practical application of TrueVision's Digital Microscope Platform for toric IOL alignment for astigmatic correction," said Forrest Fleming, TrueVision's chief executive officer. "TrueVision considers computer-guided surgery and our intelligent applications a critical aspect of advanced cataract surgery to assist surgeons in delivering the highest quality patient outcomes. This patent is consistent with our view that an innovative approach is essential for current and future products in the surgical market."

TrueVision's computer-guided surgery invention uses preoperative data and imaging to calculate optimal incision alignment and lens positioning overlays to aid surgeons with targeted refractive outcomes for individual patients.1

In addition, the guidance system integrates and retrofits with the most popular surgical microscopes and other OR technologies used during refractive cataract surgical procedures. The invention displays the live surgical field of view in several ways: Ultra HD 3D, 2D and image injection.

press release"This patent, the fifth in four years, marks another substantial TrueVision milestone proving once again our leadership position in the global surgical visualization and guidance market," said A. Burton Tripathi, PhD, executive vice president and chief technology officer, TrueVision 3D Surgical.

This U.S. patent joins a growing portfolio of issued patents and patent pending applications based upon TrueVision's pioneering work in the area of advanced digital microsurgery.
