Forrest Fleming, Chief Executive Officer and board member,
is an experienced executive with a distinguished track record of creating successful start-up companies across many industries. Most recently, Mr. Fleming was CEO of ScentAir Technologies, a pioneer in creating scent-marketing solutions for retail environments and consumer brand promotions. Prior to that, he was the senior sales and marketing executive for several successful startups; including Parametric Technology (Pro Engineer software), Celera Genomics (Drug Discovery), and Cinesite, a division of Kodak (Digital Imaging Services). Mr. Fleming specializes in creating, executing, funding, and staffing, business plans to optimally commercialize world-changing inventions. Mr. Fleming holds a B.S degree in Industrial Technology from California Polytechnic University (Cal Poly) at San Luis Obispo CA.
Michael Weissman, PhD., Chairman of the Board, Chief Technical Officer, and founder of the company,
is a technical visionary with over 36 years of R&D experience. As one of the world's leading stereoscopic experts, Dr Weissman is guiding the company's advanced development projects. Dr Weissman has been developing 3D stereoscopic video systems for 20 years. His 3D systems have traveled two miles under the sea and into radioactive waste sites. Prior to founding TrueVision, he was a member of the engineering team at Karl Storz Imaging that developed that company's 3D endoscope. Working for other companies and as a consultant, he helped to develop head-mounted displays, 3D tracking systems, and stereoscopic software. In the 80s, he founded Microscience, Inc., one of the first companies to develop 2D and 3D video analysis on PC-type computers. Dr. Weissman is a member of the program committee for the Stereoscopic Applications Conference of the SPIE. He earned his undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins and his PhD at the University of Chicago and performed post-doctoral research at Imperial College, London..
David Bragg, Vice President of Sales and Business Development,
has 20 years of marketing and sales experience in the ophthalmic surgical industry. Mr. Bragg directs global sales and strategic business development operations for all medical disciplines from the company's Orange County sales office. Most recently he was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for WaveTec Vision Systems Inc. Prior to joining WaveTec, Mr. Bragg was Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing for Advanced Vision Science (AVS), a subsidiary of Santen Inc., based in Osaka, Japan. David has held several senior sales and marketing positions with Bausch and Lomb, Chiron Vision and Johnson & Johnson. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Minnesota.
A. Burton Tripathi, Ph.D., Vice President of Product Development
has over 10 years experience in developing and marketing innovative technology, primarily in the medical device industry. Dr. Tripathi is leading the company's development efforts for the core TrueVision products and is responsible for the new product roadmap for hardware and surgical software products. Dr. Tripathi worked as senior manager for the Lap-Band® business at Allergan (previously Inamed). Prior to Allergan, he was the product manager for robotic surgical systems at Computer Motion, Inc. (now Intuitive Surgical-DaVinci). Dr. Tripathi worked for two years as a management consultant with the firm of McKinsey & Co. where he focused on High-Tech, Life Sciences, and Corporate Finance work. His experience includes assignments with medical device, semiconductor, and pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Tripathi received his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology in Mechanical Engineering/Material Science and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University.
Robert Reali, Vice President of Operations and Marketing,
has over 20 years experience as an executive in operations and marketing for technology companies. Mr. Reali leads the marketing team responsible for creating and implementing corporate messaging, marketing programs, and events. In addition Mr. Reali oversees the company's growth in operations, manufacturing, and sales support. Prior to TrueVision, Mr. Reali was the Business Development, Marketing and Programs Manager for Advanced Propulsion Technologies (now EcoMotors, a Kholsa Ventures company), an early-stage company that developed a clean and fuel efficient diesel engine. Mr. Reali spent 21 years as the co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of ExperTelligence Inc. that licensed software and incubated a host of software and internet companies based on its intellectual property including an IPO. He studied Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Thomas P. Riederer PE, Director of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs, and co-founder of the company,
has over 30 years experience in technology products including product design and development, manufacturing, quality assurance, regulatory compliance and system integration. Currently he is the company's chief mechanical and manufacturing engineer and is setting up the FDA-compliant Quality System required to manufacture the company's products. He has numerous technology firsts, such as his involvement in the development of the first color inkjet printer (Hewlett-Packard Corporation), the first FDA-cleared surgical robot (Computer Motion, Inc., now Intuitive Surgical Corporation) and the first practical 3D Lens Adapter for camcorders (the NuView). A veteran of numerous startup companies, he has spent the last ten years developing 3D cameras, systems and movies (Up Denali 3D). Mr Riederer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin and has done grad school work there and at Stanford University and USC in electrical engineering, magnetics and laser systems. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in California (M25211) and Wisconsin (23181-006).
Board Members
Fred Gluck retired as Managing Director of McKinsey Corporation, an international management consulting firm in 1995. He served with McKinsey from 1967 to 1995 and led the firm as its Managing Director from 1988 to 1994, when he retired from the Firm to join The Bechtel Group, where he served as Vice-Chairman and Director. Mr. Gluck retired from Bechtel in July 1998. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Amgen. Cottage Health System (Santa Barbara, Ca) and The New York Presbyterian Hospital. He is active at University of California, Santa Barbara, where he is a trustee of the UCSB Foundation, a member of the Advisory Council of the Kavli Institute of Theoretical Physics, and a member of the Steering Committee for the Campaign for UCSB. Additionally, Mr. Gluck serves on the Board of Advisors of RAND Health in Santa Monica, CA. and Tennenbaum Capital Partners in Los Angeles, California and the Brookings Budgeting for National Priorities Corporate Advisory Committee. Mr. Gluck earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Manhattan College and a master's degree in the same field from New York University.
Kevin Foley, MD is a Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Tennessee, Memphis and holds academic appointments at the University of Tennessee School of Biomedical Engineering and the Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. He serves as Director of Complex Spine Surgery at Semmes-Murphey Clinic, Director of the Spine Fellowship Program for the University of Tennessee Department of Neurosurgery, and Medical Director for both the Medical Education & Research Institute and the Image-Guided Surgery Research Center. Dr. Foley received his Doctor of Medicine degree from UCLA in 1979. During his training and throughout his career he has received numerous awards and recognitions including the Eben J. Carey Memorial Anatomy Award, the Merck Manual Award for Academic Achievement, Letterman Army Medical Center's Richard Mason Award for Outstanding Intern, the Army Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Order of Military Medical Merit, and the Surgeon General's Physician Recognition Award.
Eric D. Donnenfeld, MD FAAO, FACS is one of the leading ophthalmic surgeons in the country. He has trained more surgeons to perform refractive surgery than any other doctor in New York. Dr. Donnenfeld has designed and patented four instruments for refractive surgery use, and he has written over 500 papers, books and book chapters on corneal, cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Donnenfeld is on the Cornea Committee of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and Ocular Surgery News. He is in the process of co-writing the American Academy of Ophthalmology Refractive Surgery Basic Science Book. He is one of the original investigators of the excimer laser. Dr. Donnenfeld is a renowned international authority on refractive surgery and has lectured throughout the United States and abroad on this subject. Dr. Donnenfeld graduated Magna Cum Laude from Dartmouth College. He graduated with honors at the top of his class at Dartmouth Medical School. He was Chief Resident at Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital and completed his Cornea and Refractive Fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.
Flagg Flanagan is the managing director for surgical device portfolio companies of Itochu Healthcare USA. Prior to his current role at Itochu, he was the founder and President of Flanagan Instruments, a leading distributor for surgical microscopes for over 25 years. In 2005 Flanagan Instruments was sold to Itochu Healthcare Group. Itochu (formerly called C.ITOH) is Japan's leading trading company with over $100B in annual revenue. Mr. Flanagan has significant experience and influence with many leading microsurgery surgeons, and is a great judge of relevant new technologies in the surgical device market. He is a graduate of Auburn University in Mechanical Engineering.
Aidan Foley has over 20 years of executive level management experience in the technology and entertainment industries. In technology, Mr. Foley has managed organizations, at executive levels, of software, hardware and services businesses on a global basis with a focus towards digital imaging. Prior to his current role as founder and CEO of AF Double Eagle, a corporate development and distribution company, Mr. Foley was the Chief Marketing Officer and President of the Enterprise Solutions Group of Ascent Media, an 800 million dollar global organization of Liberty Media. Prior to Ascent Media, Mr. Foley was the CEO of Kodak's Digital Entertainment Division. Mr. Foley is a member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS) and the Producers Guild. His organizations have won awards for technical achievement including an Oscar and an Emmy.
